The mystery of the Missing Lunch Box

Something mysterious has happened at Greenwood School.

A lunch box that was safely placed inside the classroom in the morning has disappeared by lunchtime.

Nobody knows exactly what happened.

Was it moved?

Did someone take it accidentally?

Was it left somewhere else?

Or is there a simple explanation that everyone has missed?

Your mission is to read the story carefully, follow what each character does, notice important details, and use the clues to discover what really happened.

How to Play

Read the complete story before answering the questions.

Pay attention to:

• People — Who was involved?
• Places — Where did different events happen?
• Time — When did important events happen?
• Objects — What was carried, moved, borrowed, or left behind?
• Conversations — What did each person say
• Clues — Which small details could become important later?
• Actions — What happened before and after each event?

Some questions will test what you remember.

Some will require you to connect two or more clues.

Some may involve simple time, numbers, or mathematics.

Others will ask you to think about honesty, friendship, responsibility, and good decision-making.

You can revisit the story whenever you need to check a clue.

Most importantly, don't blame a character just because something looks suspicious. Good detectives use facts and evidence before reaching a conclusion.

Phase 1 — A Special Lunch

It was Tuesday morning at Greenwood School.

Eleven-year-old Aarav arrived at school at 8:10 AM, twenty minutes before the first bell.

He was especially excited about lunchtime because his mother had packed his favourite vegetable sandwiches and some sliced mangoes in his bright blue lunch box.

There was also something unusual about it.

Aarav normally carried a black lunch bag, but its zip had broken the previous evening. That morning, his mother gave him his younger cousin's red lunch bag instead.

Aarav entered Class 6B and placed the red lunch bag on the shelf at the back of the classroom.

His friend Kabir was already there.

"New lunch bag?" Kabir asked.

"Only for today," Aarav replied. "My black one is broken."

At 8:25 AM, their class teacher, Ms. Meera, entered and asked everyone to prepare for the morning assembly.

Aarav quickly checked that his lunch bag was on the shelf and left with the class.

Phase 2 — The Busy Morning

After assembly, the students returned at 9:05 AM.

The first two lessons were mathematics and science.

During the science lesson, Ms. Meera announced that the class would visit the school garden after the short break to observe different types of leaves.

At 10:30 AM, the short-break bell rang.

Aarav and Kabir went to fill their water bottles.

Meanwhile, Maya, another student from Class 6B, returned to the classroom because she had forgotten her notebook.

As she entered, she noticed a red lunch bag lying on the floor beside the shelf.

"Someone could step on this," she thought.

Maya picked it up and placed it on the nearest empty desk.

She took her notebook and hurried outside.

A few minutes later, Rohan from Class 6A entered the room.

His teacher had sent him to return a geography book to Ms. Meera.

He left the book on her table and walked out.

When Aarav and Kabir returned, the bell was already ringing for the next activity.

They joined their classmates and headed directly to the school garden.

Aarav didn't check his lunch bag.

Phase 3 — A Small Mix-Up

While Class 6B was in the garden, the school assistant, Mr. Ravi, entered the classroom.

He had been asked to move three empty desks to the activity room before lunchtime.

One of those desks was the desk where Maya had placed the red lunch bag.

Mr. Ravi noticed the bag.

"This must belong to someone in the activity room," he thought.

He picked it up, carried it along with the classroom materials, and placed it on a table inside the activity room.

He didn't open the bag.

At 11:40 AM, another group of students entered the activity room for an art lesson.

One student noticed the red bag but didn't touch it.

Their art teacher, Mrs. Nisha, assumed it belonged to a student from the previous class and left it where it was.

Phase 4 — The Lunch Box Is Missing

At 12:30 PM, the lunch bell finally rang.

Aarav hurried to the shelf.

His red lunch bag wasn't there.

He checked underneath the shelf.

Nothing.

He checked near his desk.

Nothing.

"My lunch is missing!" Aarav said.

Kabir came over.

"It was here this morning. I saw it," he said.

Maya heard them talking.

"I saw a red bag during the short break," she said. "It was on the floor, so I put it on an empty desk."

Aarav was surprised.

"Which desk?"

Maya pointed toward the back of the classroom.

Kabir suddenly remembered something.

"Rohan came into our classroom during break! I saw him leaving when we came back."

For a moment, Aarav wondered whether Rohan had taken the lunch bag.

But Ms. Meera stopped them.

"We shouldn't accuse anyone without knowing what happened," she said. "Let's find the facts first."

She asked Rohan why he had entered the classroom.

"My teacher asked me to return your geography book," Rohan explained.

Ms. Meera looked at her table.

The geography book was there.

That explained Rohan's visit.

Phase 5 — Following the Clues

Now the class knew something important.

The lunch bag had been on the shelf in the morning.

Maya had later found it on the floor and moved it onto an empty desk.

But nobody knew what happened after that.

Ms. Meera looked toward the back of the classroom.

"Something else is different," she said.

Maya looked around.

"The empty desks are gone!"

Ms. Meera remembered that Mr. Ravi had been asked to move them to the activity room.

Aarav, Kabir, Maya, and Ms. Meera walked there.

Mrs. Nisha was arranging paintbrushes when they arrived.

"Have you seen a red lunch bag?" Aarav asked politely.

Mrs. Nisha pointed toward a table near the window.

"Do you mean that one?"

There it was.

Aarav opened the red bag.

Inside was his bright blue lunch box, exactly where he had left it.

Mystery solved.

Phase 6 — What Really Happened?

Back in the classroom, Ms. Meera helped everyone reconstruct the events.

Aarav had originally placed the lunch bag on the shelf.

At some point, it had fallen onto the floor.

Maya found it and moved it to an empty desk so nobody would step on it.

Later, Mr. Ravi moved that desk and assumed the red bag belonged in the activity room.

Rohan had entered the classroom, but only to return the geography book.

Nobody had stolen anything.

A series of perfectly ordinary actions had made the lunch box appear to disappear.

Aarav looked at Rohan.

"I'm sorry I suspected you before knowing what happened."

Rohan smiled.

"That's okay. At least you found your lunch."

Kabir laughed.

"And we solved our first school mystery!"

Aarav looked at the clock.

It was 12:45 PM.

They had spent fifteen minutes searching for the missing lunch.

"Detective work makes me hungry," Aarav said.

Everyone laughed.

Aarav finally opened his bright blue lunch box and shared some of his mango slices with his friends.

Before the next lesson began, he wrote his name and class on a small label and attached it to the red lunch bag.
